BAKERSFIELD WRITERS OF KERN
A BRANCH OF CALIFORNIA WRITERS CLUB
Writers
of Kern is
one of fourteen branches of the California Writers Club. CWC was started by
Jack London and fellow writers for the purpose of helping aspiring authors
and socializing with other authors.
The Writers of Kern
was formed to bring together professional writers and aspiring writers in a
creative atmosphere. Published writers share their knowledge and skills
through critique groups, at general meetings and during conferences and
workshops.
We have printed brochures with an application to join attached, and
business cards which members pass out to people who are interested in
writing. We now have over 60 members in our club.
Every other year each
club nominates a member who has been instrumental in helping the club with
its mission. They are then presented with The Jack London plaque for
outstanding service to their branch of CWC. Past recipients are: Barbara
Gable, Barbara Nelson, Jim Imel, Maggie Caldwell
Smith, Beth Davisson, Camille Gavin, Helen Shanley,
Peg Connelly, and Terry Redman.
Fees are due on July
1st of every year. A total of $65.00 is required to join which includes the
$20.00 fee to become a member of CWC. Each year after that the dues are
$45.00.
CWC provides
insurance for every meeting or function we promote and gives us the
non-profit status as a club.
